Long version: The HEMA movement is a magnificent fusion of amateur fencing, sports, historical research, and weapon theory, including the practical application of using swords to fight opponents.
Despite being relatively unknown, numerous European countries developed sophisticated systems for weapons, fencing, and hand-to-hand combat in various scenarios, such as in armor and without, on foot and horseback, on the battlefield, in the streets, and even in court. As a result, many fencing schools emerged, competing with each other, some of which became widely recognized for their effectiveness. The HEMA movement now focuses on studying and preserving the techniques of these skilled masters.
Nowadays, thousands of enthusiasts worldwide study ancient manuscripts, fencing books, and scrolls to learn about the fighting techniques used with various weapons. These sources are translated into modern languages and carefully analyzed to obtain a theoretical understanding of the fencing concepts, which are then practiced through weapons exercises and tested in training, sparring, and tournaments.
Originating in archives and libraries as a theoretical discipline and the subject of study for historians, the HEMA has since grown into a global hobby for amateur fencing enthusiasts, attracting renowned scholars and participants from Europe, the USA, and Czechia. It has even become a national sport in some countries, with international federations and leagues uniting thousands of people.

Long version: The modern HEMA movement is an amazing synthesis of amateur fencing, sports, the study of history, and history of weapons, and the theory and practice of their application. (beating other people with swords)
Thought, it is not widely known, different European countries had developed systems of the sophisticated usage of weapons, fencing and hand-to-hand combat/Fighting in armor and without, on foot and on horseback, in the streets, on the battlefield and in court.
People were often faced with the need to protect themselves in conditions when almost everyone was armed.
Such an environment gave rise to many different fencing schools competing with each other. Some of them were particularly effective and wide-spread. The heritage of the masters of these schools is the primary subject of study in the modern HEMA movement.
Now, thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world study historical sources that have come down to us: ancient manuscripts, fencing books and scrolls containing fencing and fighting techniques with various types of weapons.
The sources are translated into modern languages and carefully studied. The theory of fencing thus obtained is interpreted through exercises with weapons, turning it into a practical technique. This technique is tested and tested again in training, sparring and tournaments.
Having originated at the end of the twentieth century in archives and libraries as a theoretical discipline, and the subject of study of some historians, the modern HEMA movement has grown into a worldwide popular hobby of amateur fencing with recognized scholars and participants in Europe, the USA and Czechia. It has become national sports in some countries and has international federation and international leagues uniting thousands of people.

Entry - beginners' course

Q: What is the difference between courses?
1) Trial lesson - Are you not sure if HEMA is for you? Write us an email or call us to appoint a meeting at our club, or join our Open Lessons. The first lesson of the training course is for free!
2) Entry Longsword is two-month crash course. The main goal is to give you an opportunity to try HEMA, to learn the basics and to join a Regular Group afterward. The price is 2950 CZK per month, with two-month payment ahead (full course) e.g 5900 CZK.
In program: General explanation of the phenomena of HEMA and the Longsword in the tradition of Johanes Lichtenauer. Warm up, basic elements, cuts and thrust, concept of distance, mobility with sword exercises. 
3) Regular Longsword is a year-round group where people can grind 3 times per week, achieving steady progress. Price is 4000 CZK monthly.
In program: basic and advanced fencing techniques, fencing-specific physical exercises, basic work with distance, timing and movement, educational controlled sparring.
4) Personal training - Is your schedule irregular, yet you still want to fence with us? No problem! We are offering an individual training lessons with our skilled instructors! 
Q: What if I don't like the trainings? How's refund policy? 
This is totally okay. You can get your money back if for some reason you'll change your mind. We'll return the whole amount if you'll request it anytime before the start of the course or after the first lesson. If you'll make such request later (up to 14 days after start of the course) - we'll return the remaining amount (5900 czk minus 500 czk for each lesson that already happened during the course). Other cases could be discussed separately.

Who we are: HEMA Praha is run by Sword Capital s.r.o., ID 21239452. Contact: info@hema-praha.cz.

What we collect: when you sign up for an open lesson we store your name, e-mail, phone number if you give it, your message and the date you chose. When you register for an Entry course we also store the group you chose and your payment (amount, variable symbol, when it arrived). We keep a history of what we sent you and of your registrations.

Why: to arrange the lesson, send you a confirmation and a reminder, invite you to an Entry course and handle your registration and payment, and to send you news (new Entry groups, events) by e-mail. The legal basis is your consent and steps taken at your request before a membership. You can unsubscribe from news at any time through the link in every news e-mail.

Who processes it for us: Supabase (database, servers in Frankfurt, EU), Resend (sending e-mails), Ecomail (newsletter) and Vercel (website hosting). They only process the data on our behalf.

Messages: when you write to us through the personal training form, your name, e-mail, phone if you give it and your message come to us by e-mail. We use them only to reply to you.

How long: as long as needed for these purposes, or until you ask us to delete it.

Your rights: you can ask us what we store about you, have it corrected or deleted, withdraw your consent at any time, and complain to the Czech Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.cz). Just write to info@hema-praha.cz.
